Carston Jay finally made his debut into the world on September 12, 2012 at 5:17 pm. He came a long five days late and I think he would have stayed in there longer if I hadn't been induced. We went to the hospital at 7:00 am on the morning of the 12th, it was really weird to leave the house knowing it would be the last time without a baby.

We got to the hospital and things started right away. My doctor came in around 7:30 and broke my water while the nurse got the pitocin and antibiotics going (I was group B strep positive). When we checked in I was 3 cm and 80% effaced (but I had been for about 2 weeks). My contractions started and were about every 2-3 minutes, by the time they started getting painful I asked for an epidural. I'm a whimp when it comes to pain and as miraculous as it is, I wasn't too thrilled about being in pain. I got my epidural around 10:30, I think this is what I was most nervous about for the whole labor and delivery process. I hate needles and voluntarily putting a massive needle into my back scared me, but let me tell you, it was worth it. The worst part about it was the shot they give you to numb your back, I didn't feel anything else after that, and thankfully Taylor was there holding my hands the whole time.
Things kept progressing throughout the rest of the afternoon. I dialated about 1 cm every hour after I got the epidural. I did have a mini panic attack because of the numbness in my legs. All I wanted to do was curl my toes and it really freaked me out that I couldn't. I kept asking Taylor to straighten or bend my legs for me, but it was really frustrating to me that I couldn't feel them or do it myself.
The nurse came in to check me around 3:30 and said I was an 8, so at the pace we had been going we expected about 2 more hours until I was at a 10. Around 4:30 she came in to check again and within seconds said "Oh, you are ready to go! I'll go call your doctor." Our doctor got there around 5:00, after being stuck in rush hour traffic, he said he can normally get from his office to the hospital in about 7 minutes, it took him 30 to get there, dumb traffic. Once he was there things got rolling really quickly, I started pushing at 5:11, 3 contractions and 6 minutes later, Carston was here, weighing in at 7 lbs 9 ounces and measuring 20.5 inches. We are so so in love and he is perfect in every way!

Carston is going to be 2 weeks on Wednesday and like all mothers say, time is going by way too fast. I look at him and can't believe how much he has changed in just two short weeks. We sure love our little man.
